HR and payroll software for companies with over 100 employees
With 20 employees, payroll is a process. With over 100 and operations in several countries, it is a compliance risk, a significant cost and one of the company's most sensitive stores of personal data.

HR software is the set of systems where a company keeps its employees' data and runs the processes that depend on it: hiring, payroll, absences, performance and development. The label changes by vendor, and that confusion can make comparisons not comparable.
A disclosure before we continue: Cyrrus doesn't resell licenses or take commissions from any vendor. That's why we can compare without preferences.
What is the difference between payroll, HRIS and HCM?
Payroll software calculates and pays. An HRIS (human resources information system) manages the employee record: data, contracts, benefits, history. An HCM (human capital management) includes that and adds the rest of the lifecycle: recruiting, shift scheduling, absences, performance reviews, training and analytics. Vendors don't draw these lines the same way; some include payroll inside the HRIS and others treat it as a component of the HCM.
| Option | What it solves | When it usually suffices |
|---|---|---|
| Payroll software | Payroll calculation and payment, with each country's obligations | Companies with a single jurisdiction and simple people processes |
| HRIS | A single employee record, contracts, benefits, basic self-service | When the problem is scattered data and manual paperwork |
| HCM | The full lifecycle: hiring, payroll, performance, development and analytics | Over 100 employees, several sites or countries, and a need to manage talent with data |
What changes when the company passes 100 employees?
What's at stake changes. Payroll errors stop being rework and become legal and reputational exposure. Turnover and absenteeism start to weigh on the margin. And leadership needs reliable personnel-cost figures. If the company operates in several countries, each brings its own labor and payroll legislation, and the system must support it or rely on a local partner; that can decide which alternatives are viable before you compare features.
Evaluating an HR or payroll system?
We define requirements with HR, finance and IT and compare the alternatives with no vendor commissions.
- Requirements by country and finance integration
- Independent comparison, no commissions

How does it integrate with finance and the ERP?
Payroll is a significant expense and must reach accounting without rework. Before choosing, define which system is the source of truth for the employee master, the organizational structures and cost centers, and who maintains the integration. If you haven't chosen the ERP yet, decide both together; doing it separately multiplies the interfaces.
What should leadership decide before quoting?
First, the problem in business terms: compliance risk, process cost, turnover or lack of data to decide. Second, the geographic and legal scope. Third, who owns the system: HR, finance or IT. Fourth, personal data protection, which in HR includes sensitive information and demands role-based access controls. And fifth, the multi-year total cost, using the same logic as what it costs to implement an enterprise system, plus your team's time.
How do you choose HR software?
Start from your real processes and the countries where you operate. Ask each vendor for a demo with your own case, including a real test payroll, and talk to customers of similar size and regions. Test the experience of managers and employees, because adoption depends on it. And verify who is responsible for legal changes in each country. A well-chosen but poorly adopted system still forces people back into spreadsheets.
Get people to use it
A people system fails if managers and employees don't adopt it. We manage the implementation and the change.
