Best ERP for midsize companies in 2026: how to compare them
If you're looking for the best ERP for your company, you've probably noticed every vendor claims to be the best. The honest answer is that it depends on your operation, and this guide shows you on what.

Choosing an ERP is one of the most expensive and hardest-to-reverse technology decisions a midsize company makes. And the market doesn't help: every vendor has a flawless demo and a list of happy customers.
A disclosure before we continue: Cyrrus doesn't resell licenses or take commissions from any vendor. That's why we can compare without preferences. If you're not yet clear on what an ERP is and which modules it includes, start with our practical guide on what an ERP is and how to choose one.
What is the best ERP for a midsize company?
No ERP is the best for every midsize company. The right one covers your critical processes with the least customization, has a total cost the company can sustain for years, and has good implementers in your country. A distributor, a manufacturer and a services firm can reach different answers from the same shortlist.

We run the selection with criteria defined before looking at vendors and with no vendor commissions, all the way to contract signature.

The ERP systems midsize companies evaluate most
SAP Business One. SAP describes it as its solution for small and midsize businesses, as opposed to SAP S/4HANA, designed for organizations of all sizes. It covers finance, purchasing, inventory, sales and customer relationships, runs on SAP HANA or Microsoft SQL Server, and is bought and implemented through SAP partners. Pricing isn't published: it's quoted.
Oracle NetSuite. A cloud-native ERP with more than 44,000 customers, according to the vendor. It's paid through an annual license that combines three components —core platform, optional modules and number of users— plus a one-time implementation fee. It doesn't publish prices either.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. It can run in Microsoft's cloud or on your own servers, and integrates naturally with Microsoft 365. It's one of the few that publishes prices: US$80 per user per month on the Essentials plan and US$110 on Premium (which adds manufacturing and service management), paid yearly.
Odoo. It has an open-source Community edition (LGPLv3 license) and a paid Enterprise edition. Its Custom plan, which can be hosted on Odoo's cloud, on Odoo.sh or on your own servers, costs US$13.40 per user per month billed annually. Its strength is flexibility and license cost; its risk is that the quality of the result depends heavily on the implementer.
Acumatica. A cloud ERP that doesn't charge per user: its price depends on the applications licensed, the expected resource consumption and the license type, with unlimited users. It suits companies with many occasional users. It's quoted through partners.
SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition. SAP offers it to midsize companies through GROW with SAP, with preconfigured best practices and, according to the vendor, go-lives in as little as four weeks. It fits the larger midsize company, with several legal entities or international expansion, that is willing to adapt its processes to the standard.
| ERP | Deployment | Pricing model | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| SAP Business One | Cloud or own servers | Quoted via partner | Small and midsize firms with standard distribution and light manufacturing processes |
| Oracle NetSuite | Cloud only | Annual license: platform + modules + users | Growing, multi-entity companies that want to avoid infrastructure |
| Dynamics 365 Business Central | Cloud or own servers | From US$80/user/month (Essentials) | Companies already working with Microsoft 365 |
| Odoo | Cloud, Odoo.sh or own servers | From US$7.95/user/month (Standard) and US$13.40 (Custom) | Companies that value flexibility and low license cost, with a good implementer |
| Acumatica | Cloud | By applications and consumption; unlimited users | Companies with many occasional users |
| SAP S/4HANA Cloud (GROW) | Public cloud | Quoted subscription | Larger midsize firms with international expansion |
Prices quoted are list prices in US dollars published by each vendor, checked in October 2026. They change often and can vary by country, currency and negotiation.
How do you compare ERP systems without getting it wrong?
You compare them against the same written requirements and the same evaluation matrix for every candidate. Before watching a single demo, define your critical processes and weight seven criteria: functional fit, technical fit, five-year total cost, vendor soundness, implementer capability, ease of adoption and local coverage (regulation, e-invoicing and language).
Then ask each finalist for a guided demo built on your own cases —not the standard demo— and a proposal for the same scope. That way the numbers are comparable.
Choosing well is half the journey
After the selection we manage the implementation as an external PMO and work on adoption from day one.
- Project management accountable for the result
- Built-in change management

Common mistakes when choosing an ERP
Choosing by brand or by the flashiest demo instead of by process fit.
Comparing only the license price instead of the total cost: implementation, data migration, integrations, support and internal team time.
Letting the selection be run by whoever will also sell the implementation.
Underestimating adoption. Prosci's research shows that projects with excellent change management are about seven times more likely to meet their objectives.
How we can help
At Cyrrus we run ERP selection independently: we gather your requirements, build the evaluation matrix, guide the demos and support you through contracting. That's how we worked with 3 Castillos, which went from strategic planning to its ERP go-live in eight months of implementation.
